Spring Inspiration

Moira Clinch. ‘Bougainvillea Gateway, Malaga’, ‘White Doorway 15, Dordogne’, ‘Brighton Rock Shop’ & ‘Yellow Carpet, New England’.

I Recently finished a series of works using watercolour and they are far from perfect. For some reason I just cant quite grasp the art of watercolour. An artist who has though is Moira Clinch, Moira has been painting in watercolour for twenty plus years, written several books and exhibited work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. So needless to say she’s had a lot of experience painting in watercolour.

After researching Moira Clinch and her many achievements and experiences, the thing I find most interesting is that her work looks brand new, its refreshing, its exciting, it possesses a real sense of enjoyment through colour, as if exploring the colours within her paintings are still experimental. This isn’t to say they are chaotic or poorly produced, quite the opposite, they are stunningly accurate and on top of that, they look highly realistic. Spring is well underway in England and I can’t wait for the warmth of sun on my skin. These pictures are bridging the gap between my hopes of sun and the annual spring showers.

I like these paintings because they offer a release from the normal. They feel exotic even in ‘Brighton Rock Shop’, the notion of going to a beach to enjoy sweet treats and hear sand crunch beneath my feet is still far off on my calendar however these are a window into summer. The watercolour paintings scream summer because of the sun kissed stone and blooming greenery. The paintings are uplifting and fresh and it’s just the remedy i needed to feel positive while typing this on a damp and miserable day outside in a typical English spring.
